Introducing Contact Sheet

Contact Sheet: a tiny Mac app for making contact-sheet PDFs (now on the Mac App Store)
This one started, as many useful bits of software do, with a very specific problem and a slightly overwhelmed family member.
My daughter needed to produce contact sheet PDFs of photos of her art projects for college — the sort of thing that’s dead simple once you’ve done it a few times, and oddly fiddly when you haven’t. I initially knocked together a shell script to do the job, and it worked a treat… right up until the point where someone who doesn’t live in Terminal needed to use it.
Which is when the requests started arriving thick and fast.
So, given she’s on a MacBook and I’ve been writing software for more years than I care to count, I did the sensible thing (for a certain definition of “sensible”) and turned it into a small, friendly Mac utility.
Contact Sheet was born.
What it does
Contact Sheet creates a printable PDF contact sheet from your images — quickly, without fuss, and without you needing to remember which way round the flags go on a command.
You can:
- Choose a folder of images, or
- Pick photos directly from your Apple Photos Library
- Choose where to save the output
- Give it a name
- Click, and… voilà — a contact sheet PDF, ready to print or submit
It’s intentionally focused: it does the job it says on the tin, and then gets out of your way.
Who it’s for
If you’ve ever needed to:
- Print a quick overview of a set of images
- Document work-in-progress photos (art, design, builds, whatever)
- Keep a tidy archive of visual projects
- Avoid the whole “open 40 files one-by-one to check what’s what” ritual
…then you’ll probably find it handy.
Built for real life (and real deadlines)
The slightly funny thing about “small” tools is that they often end up being the ones you reach for the most — because they remove friction from a task you don’t want to think about.
This was built for my daughter first, but I’ve kept it general enough that it should help anyone who needs clean, printable contact sheets without turning it into a weekend project.
Price & privacy
- Free on the Mac App Store.
- No drama, no nonsense.
- The App Store listing states no data is collected, which I’m very happy to keep true in practice as well.
